HotTeaMama tea blends help anxiety caused by PMS and Polycystic Ovaries

BethanThomas, who holds a degree in Tea Science from Fujian Agricultural University, uses her own expert knowledge around herbs as well as keeping up-to-date with the latest studies around Reproductive Health.

Her tea company, Hot Tea Mama was already selling a million tea bags a year to support those going through pregnancy or those early days of parenthood, and the new tea, Over the Moon, was created when existing customers, going through those sometimes challenging first periods post-pregnancy, asked Bethan to look into this new area. After lots of taste tests, conversations with customers and thorough research, a delicious rose-scented blend was ready.

In the range of teas there is also a tea named Take a Pause – which contains Valerian, which has an anti-anxiety effect, and Night Owl which is designed to help you sleep and reduce stress, with whole chamomile flowers and linalool-packed lavender.

Bethan says,

“The last year has been nothing if not a little stressful. While we are now faced with so much positive, the huge change that the next few months hold, can also bring fear and anxiety.

A cup of tea can help in many ways. Firstly, to give you a moment to stop and reflect, to slow down and breathe. And in not too long, to have a chat with a friend or your mum, while you dunk biscuits and talk through your fears.

Secondly, if it’s a cup of our Night OwlTake A Pause or Over The Moon, studies show the ingredients can help relieve some symptoms of anxiety and stress.

Whole chamomile flowers (Night Owl, Over the Moon) – shown in 8 week studies to have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and antidepressant impact – reducing feelings of anxiety among patients suffering from General Anxiety Disorder.

Lavender (Night Owl) – an active component in lavender, linalool, is shown to have a strong calming effect in studies. It’s anxiolytic effect was shown to be much higher than a placebo in 221 patients suffering from anxiety disorder.

Valerian root (Night Owl and Take A Pause) – a 2002 study with 36 patients who all had generalized anxiety disorder found that valerian root taken three times a day for four weeks significantly reduced one measure of anxiety compared to placebo.

So, hopefully popping the kettle on can bring you a moment of calm when you truly need it.”
