Marley Hall is one of the UK’s leading midwives with over ten years’ experience in the NHS and private sector. She is dedicated to educating women nationwide about pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond, so they can work towards a positive birthing experience. Marley’s commitment to continue to provide support during early parenthood has positioned her as an industry leader and her reputation is second to none.
With a loyal social media following of just under 100,000, Marley uses her platform to share hand drawn
illustrations which depict birthing situations. She strives to ensure that prenatal education is inclusive for all and her social media accounts are followed by a range of birthing professionals looking to improve their own practice, including doctors, midwives and students. She’s also a celebrity favourite with singer Jessie Ware, television personality Camilla Thurlow and Olympian Perrie Shakes-Drayton all following her on Instagram.
After studying Digital Broadcast Media at Thames Valley University, Marley swapped career paths to pursue an underlying passion in midwifery, qualifying from the same institution in 2009. Subsequent to attaining her qualification, Marley gained extensive experience in the field, notably in antenatal care as a community midwife and working in birthing suites on both maternity wards and in the wider community. As a result, Marley has worked with a vast array of women from varying backgrounds and ethnicities, who all had different levels of understanding on the processes behind giving birth. To further her already expert knowledge, in 2011 Marley qualified as a Hypnobirthing Instructor.
In addition to her successful career, Marley is a mother and 2019 saw the birth of her fifth child. Whilst on maternity leave, Marley felt inspired to create her Instagram account to educate expectant parents on parenthood and birthing, using creative illustrations which later went viral. Her debut book deal with
publishing powerhouse Bloomsbury, ‘Midwife Marley’s Guide for Everyone: Pregnancy, Birth & The Fourth Trimester’ will hit shelves in Spring, 2022.
Educating others is Marley’s passion, particularly when it comes to reducing the disparities in mortality and morbidity outcomes for Black women and other ethnic minorities. She has done so through supporting multiple campaigns, participating in many panels and most recently starring in Channel 4’s documentary ‘The Black Maternity Scandal’ alongside Rochelle Humes.
Marley hosts her very own podcast ‘Bumps, Birth, Boobs and Babies’, which hears from fellow health
professionals on the topic of improving maternity services for women, and she is the resident midwife for Channel Mum. Additionally, Marley works with a number of the UK’s leading baby brands such as Pampers and Lansinoh.
In the past year, Covid-19 has changed millions of lives, especially those of expecting and new parents.
Marley witnessed the damaging impact it was having and through sharing daily content, created a global community for those who previously felt isolated and alone. This is just the beginning for Marley and her passion to help parents to connect worldwide.
Marley comments: “Having given birth to five beautiful children and been through my own trials and
tribulations throughout pregnancy, birth and parenthood, on top of my career in midwifery, I feel passionate about helping others to have a positive birthing experience. These discussions are often seen as a taboo, but I am determined to share my knowledge and keep the conversation going in order to destigmatise this. It is a true honour to have been able to help so many parents this far in my journey, and I hope that my book will reach many, many more.”
